Carbon Landscapes

Below is some new infomation I have just put in the Moving Marks display box, in the in-door block on Pennington Flash Country Park:

Local artists Catherine Hawkins and Jayne Seddon, who work in this areas natural places have recently been visiting the dis-used iron ore Florence mine, in Egremont, Cumbria. They have been fundraising for an art and dance project which will take place there and locally in Atherton, where a new conservation/arts centre is in development.

Since Florence Mine closed in the nineties the shower block has become a thriving arts centre and artists materials, paint, pastel and pencils made out of the iron ore mined just before closure.

The pit head, like Astley Green still stands. With memories of how black, especially Plank Lane Pit was it is startling to see a red mine! The small Moving Marks display box will continue containing snippets from the developing project including the dense and rich mud found around Florence Mine.

See here soon for more updates about this new project.
